In my memoir, I Am Serena, a large part of how I healed was learning how to intentionally breathe with the intent to bring my Soul into my physical body. This breath supported and helped me transform into the person I am today.
In the moment that trauma occurs, the individual tends to energetically leave their body in shock. This further traumatizes them, keeping them stuck.
But the breath, which can be used in a myriad of ways, can bring anyone out of trauma and into healing.
These five breathing techniques activate your vagus nerve and stimulate natural nerve regeneration.
1. The four seven nerve reset. Inhale for four counts, hold for seven counts, exhale for eight counts. This activates your parasympathetic nerve system and stimulates the vagus nerve function, which controls nerve healing throughout your body. Do this four times, twice daily.
2. Box breathing for nerve growth factor. Inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four. This pattern optimizes oxygen delivery to nerve tissue and stimulates a release of nerve growth factor.Practice for five minutes before meals.
3. Humming breath for vagus activation. Inhale normally, then hum, while exhaling slowly. The vibration stimulates your vagus nerve, which controls the gut brain nerve access and promotes nerve regeneration. Hum for two minutes daily.
4. Cold water, face immersion breathing. Fill a bowl with 50 to 60 degrees F. water and hold your breath and immerse your face for 30 seconds. This activates the diving reflex, which stimulates vagus nerve function, and promotes nerve healing
5. Nerve regeneration breath. Inhale through your nose for six counts, pause for two, exhale through pursed lips for eight counts. This maximizes your oxygen delivery to damaged nerves, while activating healing pathways. practice for 10 minutes daily.
The vagus nerve connection controls the parasympathetic, which is responsible for rest and repair functions. When activated through breathing, it stimulates nerve growth factor production throughout your body and the oxygen nerve healing link.
Damaged nerves need three times more oxygen than healthy nerves to regenerate. These breathing techniques optimize oxygen delivery specifically to nerve tissue, while removing metabolic waste products.
The stress nerve damage cycle is that chronic stress, suppressing nerve healing by keeping you in sympathetic fight or flight mode. These breathing techniques shift you into parasympathetic healing repair mode and the scientific evidence study shows that vagus nerve stimulation through breathing can increase nerve growth factor by 200 to 400 percent, and accelerate nerve regeneration by up to 50 percent.
The medical system gap is that doctors are not trained in the therapeutic breathing because it cannot be patented or monetized.
Consistency is more important than duration. when you practice these five nerve healing breathing techniques consistently, you will see measurable improvement in nerve function. You can see results within 6 to 8 weeks as natural regeneration processes are activated. start with one technique and practice it for a week before adding the next. stay aware of how your body shifts and how you feel.
What is your intent? Is it to help you?
